According to Naná Vasconcellos, “Almost Brothers” is, basically, a film about friendship and love. “It is a delicate story that deals with love between two friends. I had to enter this universe to compose, scene by scene, a track that tells this story of this friendship and love and transmits musically the feeling of the film”, affirms the instrumentalist. “And in this sense, I think the film’s soundtrack music is marvelous”..
The production process was agile and it only took two days to record the music. “Lúcia and I conversed a lot, exchanged ideas, and put our heads together. When I entered the studio everything was pretty much thought out, I already felt the soul of the film. It was very clear the feeling I wanted to give to the story”. In principle, the theme song didn’t have lyrics, but Naná ended up writing some verses. “Even though I’m not a poet, I felt the need for that music to have words. The verses that I wrote, in some way, tell the story of the film”, says Naná.
According to him the association with Lúcia Murat was a real pleasure because the director was completely sure of what she wanted. “The job was easy because she always knew exactly what she wanted and managed to give the film a very organic quality”. Naná explains that “Almost Brothers” is a film of straight lines, of action, and that the music comes in to round out, to smoothen, the narrative..
He also points out the currency of the story.. “It’s a truthful work. The film talks about a realistic situation and relives one of the most politically difficult periods for Brazil-the dictatorship. But what most impresses me about “Almost Brothers” is that the film manages to speak about all this through a story of love. I think it’s important for all Brazilians to watch this film”, affirms Naná
