Alfonso
- a Spanish former Jesuit living with the tribespeople,
and adapting to the New World through his own theology that
blends Christian dogma with indigenous legends, justifying
his hybrid life . This role is played by Murilo Grossi,
an actor from Brasilia who has appeared in several films,
including Doces Poderes, Guerra dos Canudos and Barăo de
Mauá. He also trained the indigenous cast. |

Padre - A
dogmatic Roman Catholic priest typical of the XVIII century
with a deeply-rooted belief in the ideology of power over
racism, the power of the Church and dogma. This role is
played by Sérgio Mamberti, one of the best-known Brazilian
actors of his generation, known for his work in O Castelo
Ratibum (television and cinema), as well as Pérola (theater).

White boy (Januya)
by Adeilson Silva
A white boy kidnapped while still a baby and a kind of brother
/ slave of Ánote, on whom he depends heavily. He goes with
the expedition to the Coimbra Fort. This character was created
by Adeilson Silva, a twelve-year-old Kadiwéu born to an indigenous
mother and a father from southern Brazil, from whom he inherited
his blond appearance. Dilsinho (as he was known on the set)
fits the role of perfectly; he grew up in the indigenous reserve
where he completed primary school, and intends to move into
town to continue his studies. |

Kadiwéu Community
Some 1,300
Kadiwéu still survive, the striking descendents of the horse-riding
Guaicuru nation, retaining their language and love for horses,
as well as some traditions such as asymmetric body-painting. They
live in a reserve near Bodoquena and Bonito in Mato Grosso do
Sul state that was conquered during the Brazilian Empire in the
XIX century, repaying the tribe for its participation in the War
with Paraguay. Some forty tribespeople took part in this film,
some playing important roles, such as tribal chief Hilário Silva,
Vanessa Marcelino as Anoă, Sandra Silva as her mother, Alvanir
Matchua as the young warrior, and William Soares as Anoă's father.
