The Guaicuru people believed in a birth legend that allowed them to be great warriors. According to this legend, when the world was created, the Guaicuru people were left behind. So, since all people and their relevant roles had already been created (they mention, for instance, the Terena - then Guaná - who were created to work in farming, producing food), a bird called Caracará decided to create the Guaicuru to steal, kidnap and combat.
Due to this birth myth, they were therefore created bearing the right to steal and kidnap, since these were their primary role. They had a relationship of power over the Guaná, who were forced to provide them with food in exchange of an alleged protection. All their social structure, values and rituals used to be fairly linked to this warrior role. Although there is a bunch of Evangelical churches in the village, we still hear stories addressing this myth.
