INTERVIEW
This is your second role in a Lúcia Murat feature film...
I’m happy that she likes my work, because she has been an essential part of my life these last few years. She has given me some measure of stability in life. Working with her is very good. I hadn’t acted for a year and a half when she called me for ‘Maré’ and that made me very happy. I was working on the play‘O incrível encontro’ (2000), by Anselmo Vasconcelos, at the Fundição Progresso, when I was chosen for a part in ‘Cidade de Deus’. From then on, I’ve taken all sorts of courses, including story board, but I can’t yet live off acting.
What was it like being on opposite sides to Babu Santana’s character?
OBabu has been my friend for around eight years and is a terrific actor. It was something else. But the scene I want to see is when I take my sister to settle an argument with the dance teacher. I was trembling. To play opposite Marisa Orth who I had seen in theater and TV since I was a kid. But when the time came it was ok. Lucia gave us plenty of freedom to improvise and this helped. The script for this scene only indicated the intent. In the end I gave my sister a telling off and Lucia laughed. I loved it when she smiled like that. There was no need to ask if the scene was okay.
